Endodontic Retreatment

With proper care, teeth that have undergone endodontic treatment will last as long as other natural teeth. Yet, a tooth that has received treatment may fail to heal, or the pain may persist. Sometimes, the pain may occur months or years after treatment. If so, Endodontic Retreatment may be needed.

Improper healing can have several causes; however, the most important thing to keep in mind is that if a root canal fails, endodontic retreatment can resolve the issue, alleviate any pain, and still save your natural tooth. At Rancho Endodontics, we have provided endodontic retreatment near you for three decades using the latest techniques to ensure success and patient comfort.

How long does a retreatment of a root canal take?

At Rancho Endodontics, most retreatments are completed in one to two visits, depending on the tooth and the complexity of the case. Because our specialists use high-powered microscopes and advanced 3D imaging, we can identify and treat issues with greater precision. This means fewer visits, less time in the chair, and a smoother overall experience.

How common are failed root canals?

Root canals are highly successful procedures, but sometimes a tooth doesn’t heal as expected, or new problems, such as hidden canals or fresh decay, develop over time. These situations are not unusual, and they don’t mean the original treatment was performed poorly. Our team at Rancho Endodontics has decades of combined experience addressing these exact challenges, and we’ve successfully retreated countless teeth that patients thought were beyond saving.

Is retreatment better than extraction?

Whenever possible, saving your natural tooth is the healthiest option. Natural teeth offer superior function, appearance, and bite stability compared to replacements. At Rancho Endodontics, retreatment is often the best path to preserving your tooth and protecting your overall oral health. Extraction is considered only after every effort has been made to keep your tooth, and our specialists excel at giving teeth a second chance.

Is endodontic retreatment painful?

Patients are often surprised by how comfortable retreatment can be. With advanced anesthetics, modern techniques, and a gentle, patient-centered approach, most people report little to no discomfort during their visit. At Rancho Endodontics, we prioritize your comfort throughout recovery, providing clear guidance and support if any

Can a dentist retreat a failed root canal?

While some general dentists may attempt retreatment, endodontists are uniquely trained for this type of procedure. Our doctors have advanced specialty training and utilize the latest technologies to locate and treat even the smallest canals or hidden infections. This level of precision and expertise greatly improves the success of endodontic treatment near you.

Does insurance cover retreatment?

Many dental insurance plans include benefits for retreatment, though the details vary. Rancho Endodontics has a knowledgeable team dedicated to helping patients navigate insurance. We’ll review your benefits, answer your questions, and provide clear options so you can feel confident about moving forward with treatment.

If you have a failed root canal or are experiencing pain long after a root canal has been performed, a consultation with the endodontists at Rancho Endo may save your natural tooth. Contact our office at Rancho Endodontics Phone Number 951-677-7322 to schedule an appointment.

Patient Review by Barbara M

I do not like having dental procedures done, especially hearing the drill. I loved being able to have noise cancelling head phones & watch tv as I laid there during the procedure. I felt Dr Silberman was very personable, kind made me feel comfortable the whole time by explaining every step.

Patient Review by Elizabeth D

Beautiful office! Very peaceful atmosphere. Dr. Silberman was caring and gracious. He took a lot of time to explain my problem. He also opted for a wait and see approach on a problematic tooth, instead of rushing to a surgical one that would have been expensive and require some recovery time. He also didn't rush me out. The supporting staff went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable and not in any pain during the exam. Very impressed. Will return if necessary.

Patient Review by Helene S

I’ve been visiting Dr Petterson’s ofc as needed over a period of 25 years and value his work so much I currently pay out of pocket to see him as all other endodonists in my Plan are simply dentists DOING endology and are not a board certified specialist as Dr Pettersen is.

Patient Review by Valerie G

Dr. Pettersen is great and made a dreaded procedure a positive, painless experience. Unfortunately this was a second tooth that had to be worked on and I arrived at the appointment confident that he would listen and be sensitive to my needs.

I loved the entire experience of this office, its staff, and doctors and assistance. My root canal was failing, and within two days of calling, I had an appointment. The waiting room and office is very warm and welcoming, they even have a tv with a headset that they give you so that you can watch your favorite TV shows while they are working on you.

Patient Review by Ciri R

I have a long history of bad teeth and serious dental anxiety. Doctor Silberman is AMAZING. Best chair-side manner of any endodontist or any other type of dentist I have ever been to. And that is saying a lot because I have had a ridiculous amount of dental work (many root canals) in my 40 years of life! He and his assistant were friendly and reassuring and walked me (so to speak) through the whole procedure, checking to make sure I was doing okay every few minutes. They also have TVs in the ceiling, which is a nice distraction when you hate being in that chair. I highly recommend this place. The whole entire staff was lovely.
